Houston Cougars Big 12 football schedule

Overview

The No. 20 ranked Houston Cougars are navigating their Big 12 Conference schedule, recently overcoming a significant deficit against the UCF Knights. The matchup, held at TDECU Stadium, was preceded by scheduling tensions after the University of Houston’s request for a night game to accommodate a Hall of Fame Gala was denied by the Big 12 and ESPN, resulting in an 11:00 a.m. kickoff.

In the contest, which featured the ‘Space U’ versus ‘Space City’ rivalry and special solar system-themed helmets, Houston overcame a 17-0 deficit to win 27-17. After UCF took an early lead through a touchdown pass from Keyone Jenkins to Josh Derry and a 5-yard run by Jenkins, quarterback Conner Weigman led the comeback. Weigman, who reportedly played while ill, rushed for three second-half touchdowns and threw for 239 yards, becoming the first Houston signal-caller to record three rushing touchdowns since September 2023. A Latreveon McCutchin interception helped set up a 1-yard touchdown run by Weigman to secure Houston’s first lead.

Jonathan Dimas contributed two field goals, including a career-high 46-yard kick, to seal the victory. The Houston defense stifled the Knights late in the game, holding UCF to only 48 total yards in the fourth quarter. With the win, Houston moves to a 4-1 record (1-1 Big 12), while UCF falls to 3-2 (1-1 Big 12). Houston is scheduled to play an away game against Kansas State on October 10.
