Huawei automotive technology partnerships and expansion

Overview

Huawei is expanding its presence in the Chinese automotive market through various joint ventures to launch new luxury vehicle models.

In mid-September, Avatr—a partnership between Changan, Huawei, and CATL—unveiled details for the T09 luxury SUV. The vehicle is expected to offer plug-in hybrid configurations and will utilize Huawei’s infrastructure for vehicle control, voice assistants, and driving support, specifically featuring the Huawei Qiankun ADS 5 autonomous driving architecture.

By late September, another Huawei-linked brand, Stelato (a joint project with BAIC), revealed specifications for the Stelato V8 luxury MPV. This 7-seater minivan will be available in both hybrid and fully electric versions, both featuring all-wheel drive. The hybrid model uses a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine to power a 227 kW electric motor, while the electric version features a 120 kWh battery. Like the Avatr models, the Stelato V8 incorporates a Huawei driver assistance system equipped with a lidar sensor. The vehicle has received certification from the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

Additionally, Avatr has confirmed plans to expand internationally, with the Avatr 07L SUV scheduled to enter the Australian market in the first half of 2027. The 07L is a large electric SUV featuring 800-volt architecture and rapid-charging capabilities. In China, configurations range from single rear-wheel-drive to an all-wheel-drive tri-motor setup producing up to 712kW. Pre-orders for the model are expected to open by the end of 2026.
