In late July 2026, Hungary’s Ministry of Agriculture and Food began a formal review of the JÉGER hail-mitigation system following a petition with approximately 12,000 signatures. A poll of 5,000 farmers released on 31 July showed that 66.1% support suspending the system. It will remain active only in Vas, Somogy, Baranya, and Zala, where the activation threshold has been tightened from the previous 50–60% to a minimum 80% hail probability.

The decision has drawn political criticism. Former Member of Parliament Ákos Hadházy characterized the suspension as a “classic, pure populist measure” intended to avoid political unpopularity rather than addressing scientific reality. Hadházy warned that disabling the system could result in severe hail damage, particularly to vineyards, noting that scientific evidence does not support the claim that the system decreases overall precipitation. While some farmers expressed concerns regarding rainfall, the National Agricultural Chamber stated there is no link between the system's operation and drought conditions. The independent scientific panel continues its assessment of environmental and agricultural impacts to inform a final decision.
