Huỳnh Thúc Kháng 150th anniversary commemorations

Vietnam has conducted various commemorative activities to mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of Huỳnh Thúc Kháng (1876–2026), a prominent patriot, journalist, and former Acting President of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.

In Da Nang, authorities inaugurated a 56.6 billion VND project to enhance the Huỳnh Thúc Kháng Memorial House in Thanh Binh commune. The renovation includes restoring the main worship house, reconstructing traditional buildings, and developing landscape areas. Concurrently, a scientific workshop was held in Thai Nguyen to research his journalistic legacy and the historical value of the Tiếng Dân newspaper.

In Quảng Ngãi, ceremonies were held at his grave on Thiên Ấn Mountain to honor his contributions to the national liberation struggle. Meanwhile, in Huế, historical discussions focused on his role as the founder and editor of the Tiếng Dân newspaper, which operated from 1927 to 1943. Researchers noted that the physical site associated with his journalistic work in Huế is currently in a state of “serious deterioration,” highlighting a need for urgent preservation.

National leaders, including National Assembly Chairman Trần Thanh Mẫn and Central Propaganda Department Head Trịnh Văn Quyết, participated in ceremonies in Da Nang to honor Kháng’s legacy of integrity and devotion to the nation. These events included a scientific seminar hosted by the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics and the release of a commemorative postage stamp to highlight his enduring influence on Vietnamese political and cultural history.
