Ikatan Notaris Indonesia leadership dispute and 2026 updates

The Ikatan Notaris Indonesia (INI) underwent a leadership dispute characterized by dualism, which was addressed by a Supreme Court ruling. The court issued ruling Number 1470 K/Pdt/2026, affirming the results of the XXIV INI Congress held in August 2023 and establishing Tri Firdaus Akbarsyah as the legitimate Chairperson. The ruling declared the Extraordinary Congress held in Bandung in October 2023 to be without legally binding power and invalidated subsequent ministry decisions regarding association changes.

Following the legal resolution, the Central Board of the Indonesian Notaries Association (PP INI) confirmed that the scheduled 2026 Congress in Semarang would proceed. Chairman Irfan Ardiansyah stated that legal proceedings do not halt the organization’s responsibility to execute its agenda, emphasizing the priority of maintaining organizational unity and professional development programs, such as competency tests (UKEN).

From October 21 to 23, 2026, the INI held its XXIV Congress at the Padma Hotel in Semarang, Central Java. Attended by 2,545 participants from 34 regional boards, the event was themed ‘From Our Home for Indonesia: Building Organizational Sustainability for the Progress and Togetherness of All Members to Achieve Golden Indonesia.’ The congress aimed to strengthen organizational continuity and enhance notary professionalism. The event was officially opened by Widodo, Director General of General Legal Administration at the Ministry of Law, who called for unity within the organization to resolve internal dynamics and highlighted the strategic role of notaries in national economic development.
