Illegal landfill remediation and land seizure in Capua
Overview
Cleanup operations have commenced to remediate an illegal landfill located on the banks of the Volturno River in via Pomerio, Capua. Managed by an extraordinary commissioner to bring the site into compliance with national regulations, this project is the third of six planned interventions within the municipality, according to Mayor Adolfo Villani.
In a separate development regarding illegal activity on the riverbank, the Caserta Provincial Police seized approximately 12,000 square meters of land in the Ballerina district. Investigations uncovered unauthorized modifications and the dumping of soil and waste materials without permits. Authorities discovered an active construction site using mechanical machinery, where individuals were reportedly using illegal filling activities to expand private property toward the river.
While a landowner presented a document intended to authorize works, investigators determined the permit applied to a different area. Because the site is a protected area and a primary waterway, officials noted potential risks to the hydraulic safety of the territory. Two individuals have been reported to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, and a truck was seized while preparing to discharge a load of soil.
