India 2026 electoral roll revision
Entities: Election Commission of India · Vivek Yadav · Chief Electoral Officer of Andhra Pradesh · Arjun Ram Meghwal · Chief Electoral Officer of Odisha
Overview
In late July 2026 the Election Commission of India continued its Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists across multiple states. After publishing draft rolls for Haryana and Andhra Pradesh on 31 July, the commission extended the claims‑and‑objections window to 30 August and kept the final publication date of 3 October for those states.
The same day the commission announced an extension of the SIR deadline in Odisha: the deadline for filing claims and objections was moved to 19 August, the notice phase will run until 17 September, and the state’s final roll is now expected on 21 September.
In Telangana, the SIR identified about 48.3 lakh (14.2 %) voters for deletion due to permanent shifts, deaths or duplicate registrations, and the state’s SIR deadline was pushed to 10 August.
The draft rolls released for Andhra Pradesh showed 3.71 crore forms submitted, confirming deletions of 15.22 lakh deceased, 22.30 lakh shifted/absent and 7.37 lakh duplicate entries. Haryana’s draft similarly listed 24.13 lakh shifted or absent, 7.66 lakh deceased and 2.04 lakh duplicates.
Overall, the SIR exercise continues to prune roughly 10 % of the combined electoral roll across the nine states and three union territories, with final state‑wise rolls to be published between mid‑September and early October 2026.
