India cricket fielding coach appointment

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) reshuffled the men's team’s coaching staff, naming Subhadeep (Shubhadeep) Ghosh as the new fielding coach, succeeding T Dilip. Ghosh, 57, brings experience from the National Cricket Academy, the Centre of Excellence, previous stints with the Kolkata Knight Riders, Delhi Capitals, the Indian women’s side, India A and Assam’s senior team, and most recently as the women’s fielding coach.

Dilip, who had been in charge since November 2021 and oversaw two T20 World Cup titles and an ICC Champions Trophy, left after his contract was not renewed following the 2024‑25 Border‑Gavaskar series. The change coincides with assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate’s move to the IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders. Captain Rohit Sharma publicly praised Dilip as a “legend” and “workhorse”.

Ghosh’s first assignment will be the two‑Test series against Sri Lanka in August 2026, with a three‑day practice match in Colombo from 7 August, the first Test in Galle on 15 August and the second in Colombo on 23 August. The appointment reflects BCCI’s drive to raise fielding standards ahead of upcoming ICC events.
