India-Nepal military cooperation visit

Overview

Indian Army Chief General Dhiraj Seth conducted an official visit to Nepal from August 16 to 19, aimed at strengthening bilateral defense cooperation and military-to-military ties.

During the visit, Nepali President Ram Chandra Paudel conferred the honorary rank of General of the Nepali Army upon General Seth at Sheetal Niwas, maintaining a longstanding tradition of reciprocal honorary ranks between the two nations’ army chiefs.

General Seth held high-level discussions with Nepal’s Prime Minister and Defense Minister Balendra Shah to address mutual interests and ways to enhance military relations. He also met with Nepali Army Chief General Ashok Raj Sigdel to discuss security matters, cooperation, and expanding military collaboration.

His itinerary included inspecting a Guard of Honour at the Nepali Army Headquarters, paying tribute at the Army Pavilion in Tundikhel, and visiting the Army Command and Staff College in Shivapuri to promote academic cooperation and interact with student officers. To support Nepal’s disaster preparedness and humanitarian response capabilities, General Seth handed over vehicles, medical, and defense-related equipment. He also attended an ex-servicemen rally in Pokhara to interact with veterans and gallantry awardees.
