Indonesia civil service reform and recruitment

Indonesia is implementing various measures to reform and expand its civil service. In July 2026, the Ministry of Agrarian and Spatial Planning inaugurated 78 officials as part of a human-resource reform strategy. This initiative focuses on duty and geographic rotation, as well as time-limited tenures, to ensure “system-based professionalism” and career development.

Following these administrative changes, the Ministry of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform announced that nine government agencies would open registration for official service schools on August 18, 2026. This recruitment drive aims to fill 4,770 civil servant positions, seeking to prepare “competent, disciplined, and high-integrity individuals” for public service through specialized educational pathways.

The National Civil Service Agency (BKN) has since established a formal selection schedule for these government-affiliated vocational schools (Sekolah Kedinasan). Registration is set to run from August 18 to August 30, 2026, following an announcement period in mid-August. The selection process includes administrative reviews in late August, followed by a Basic Competency Selection (SKD) using the BKN Computer Assisted Test (CAT) in late September and early October, with final phases continuing through October.

Participating institutions include the Ministries of Home Affairs, Transportation, Finance, and Law, as well as the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN), Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), and the State Intelligence Agency. Notably, the Ministry of Law’s Politeknik Pengayoman Indonesia (Poltekpin) will offer four Diploma IV programs in legal specialties to prepare graduates for careers within the Ministry.
