Indonesia Public Works Minister under scrutiny
Entities: Indonesian government · Ministry of Transport (Indonesia) · Ministry of Public Works (Indonesia) · Dody Hanggodo
Overview
In early July 2026 a leaked delegation list showed Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo Lasmono’s wife and daughter travelling with an official UN party and later on a U.S. visit. The ministry said a spouse could travel with presidential approval, but children were not covered and travel costs were private. Policy experts noted a regulatory grey area for relatives accompanying officials, and allegations emerged that Hanggodo was appointing his niece to a board seat at PT PP (Persero) Tbk and to a ministerial expert role, raising nepotism concerns.
By mid‑July the minister denied using state funds for his family’s travel and described large civil‑servant transfers as routine. He also revealed a massive attendance‑record fraud affecting roughly 3,000‑4,000 employees, prompting a reshuffle and warnings of pension cuts to about 75 % of base salary pending a single‑salary reform under presidential review. On 18 July the Minister of State Apparatus Empowerment issued an open letter urging integrity, while Corruption Watch linked recent staff transfers to the leaked itinerary and called for merit‑based handling. On 22 July Hanggodo announced that all annual‑ and sick‑leave requests must be approved directly by him to curb forged permits, framing the measure as temporary pending stronger internal controls.
On 26 July the minister again faced criticism, this time over reports he used a private jet for travel to eastern Indonesia. He refuted the claim, stating the aircraft was a state‑owned plane operated by the Ministry of Transport and was necessary for official duties, not personal convenience.
