Indonesian university student orientation programs

Overview

Indonesian universities have commenced their 2026 student orientation programs, known as PKKMB or PBAK, with various institutions focusing on digital adaptation, leadership, and character building.

At the Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI) Padangpanjang, sessions have addressed academic insights, student organizations, and national awareness, specifically emphasizing the prevention of sexual violence on campus. At Universitas Negeri Surabaya (Unesa), the GARDA 2026 program utilized a hybrid format for approximately 20,000 participants; to mitigate bullying or the use of academic proxies, Unesa reduced orientation hours and limited assignments to academic adaptation.

Further expansion of these programs includes UIN Sultan Syarif Kasim Riau, where 2,423 students participated in a program themed ‘Youth Leadership: Young Leadership Towards Golden Indonesia 2045’ to build character and integrity. Additionally, UIN Sultan Amai Gorontalo emphasized the need for students to manage time effectively and adapt to technological changes, specifically artificial intelligence, while maintaining academic integrity.
