Indore investigation into woman's death

Overview

In Indore, authorities are investigating the death of 22-year-old Vandana Kushwaha, whose body was discovered in a water tank outside her residence in Nehru Nagar. The incident occurred approximately 25 days after her marriage to Upendra Patel.

Neighbors alerted police after hearing screams and observing bloodstains on Patel’s clothing. While the exact cause of death was initially awaiting post-mortem results, ACP Nidhi Saxena stated that the case “appears to be a murder prima facie.”

Following further investigation, police have arrested the victim’s sister-in-law, Parvati Kushwaha, as the primary suspect. Investigators allege that Parvati attacked Vandana with a knife following a dispute triggered by comments Vandana made regarding Parvati’s brother, who is currently incarcerated. It is alleged that the suspect then placed the body in the water tank to conceal the crime.

A knife used in the incident has been recovered. While Upendra Patel and his brother were initially detained for questioning, the focus has shifted to Parvati Kushwaha. A post-mortem examination is being conducted to confirm the exact cause of death.

New details indicate the fatal confrontation occurred during the Raksha Bandhan festival while the two women were alone at the residence. Parvati Kushwaha reportedly stabbed Vandana twice in the neck. The crime came to light after Vandana was reported missing; investigators subsequently used CCTV footage to track Parvati’s movements, which led to her questioning and eventual confession. The victim and her husband had recently moved into a rented house following a marriage in August that faced family opposition.
