Industrial investment and activity in Romania
Overview
Romania is experiencing various industrial developments involving new investments and corporate acquisitions.
In the Bihor region, German manufacturer Schmitz Cargobull is investing at least 25 million euros to construct a 23,500-square-meter facility in Oradea’s Eurobusiness IV Industrial Park. The plant will focus on semi-trailer chassis sub-assemblies and vehicle assembly, with the goal of creating approximately 200 jobs. While initial reports suggested production could begin in 2028, later details indicate construction is slated for summer 2027, pending the relocation of high-voltage power lines.
Other regional activities include the construction of a timber processing factory by the Mitropolia Olteniei in Scoarța, which is expected to provide roughly 50 jobs. In Galați, the Italian firm Newport & Co has acquired the Justrite Romania safety equipment factory from the American Justrite Safety Group. This transaction, which also includes the acquisition of Justrite Italia S. r. l., separates these entities from the American group. The Galați-based facility, which has operated since 2003, specializes in equipment for handling and storing hazardous substances. As part of the transition, the Justrite brand name will be phased out from products and documentation under a temporary license.
Furthering the consolidation of the manufacturing sector, the European Commission has approved the acquisition of Artrom Steel Tubes by the international group Tenaris. The Commission found the deal posed no competition concerns. Through this acquisition, Tenaris—which already operates Silcotub in Zalău—will expand its footprint by taking over Artrom Steel Tubes’ production units in Slatina and Reșița, which produce seamless steel tubes for industrial applications.
