Infrastructure and emergency response in Argentina and El S_

Overview

In Argentina, the Government of Jujuy continues to deploy medical teams, supplies, and oxygen to the Jama International Pass to provide sanitary assistance following closures caused by adverse weather. Between August 16 and 23, health services treated 116 individuals for issues including altitude sickness, hypertension, and gastrointestinal problems. While the Chilean side of the pass remains closed, Argentine routes are being kept passable for emergency services.

In the Andes, the Cristo Redentor International Pass has undergone preventive closures due to incoming snow and adverse weather forecasts, impacting heavy cargo transport and tourism between Argentina and Chile. In response to previous delays, Chilean authorities have implemented intensified sanitary inspections for food shipments arriving from Mendoza to ensure product safety.

In El Salvador, the Ministry of Public Works announced a total closure of the Los Chorros section of the Pan-American Highway scheduled for August 29 through August 30. The closure is required for controlled rock blasting on highway slopes to support the construction of a new viaduct and roadway expansion. Minister of Public Works Romeo Rodríguez stated that crews will work 24/7 to clear debris and restore traffic as part of a broader effort to modernize strategic transportation corridors.
