Insurgency in Adamawa State, Nigeria

Overview

In Adamawa State, suspected Boko Haram insurgents conducted a raid on the Gaya-Dlang community in the Hong Local Government Area. The attack resulted in the deaths of eight people, including one police inspector and seven civilians, and involved the abduction of two girls and the theft of foodstuffs.

Following this, security forces from Operation HADIN KAI and the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) conducted a precision strike on a Boko Haram and ISWAP camp in the Kopre Mountain area of the same local government area. The operation, which took place in the early hours of August 27, 2026, involved a stealth insertion into rugged terrain.

During two separate engagements, security forces neutralized more than 21 terrorists, while several others escaped with gunshot wounds. The military dismantled the terrorist stronghold and destroyed logistics infrastructure, including motorcycles, bicycles, and fuel supplies. Recovered items included AK-47 rifles, magazines, and a significant quantity of 7.62mm special ammunition. The military stated the mission was part of ongoing efforts to locate and rescue victims abducted from the Mussa community in May and schoolchildren kidnapped from Lassa in June.
