Iranian assassination plots against political figures' kin

Overview

Reports indicate that Iranian operatives have targeted the children of high-profile political leaders. In one instance, Israeli intelligence uncovered a plot in December 2025 involving the surveillance of Yair Netanyahu, the 35-year-old son of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in the Hallandale Beach area of Miami, Florida. According to U.S. law enforcement sources, Iranian operatives were active in the area, conducting surveillance on Yair’s residence and daily movements.

Following an intelligence assessment by the Shin Bet, which confirmed a “significant threat” to his physical integrity, Yair Netanyahu was urgently evacuated from Florida to Israel. The extraction, conducted alongside his security detail, reportedly occurred so abruptly that he left the United States without his personal belongings. Colonel Ronen Cohen, chairman of the Advisory Committee for the Security of Dignitaries, described the incident as an attempted assassination that was neutralized at the last minute. While the Israel Security Agency (ISA) acknowledged the threat necessitated the move, they did not officially attribute the plot to Iran in a public statement, despite Prime Minister Netanyahu previously confirming on Channel 14 that “Iran targeted one of my sons. Iran tried to murder him.”

In response, the Knesset Ministerial Committee approved extended personal protection for the Prime Minister’s wife and adult sons. Additionally, the U.S. Secret Service has launched an investigation into threats from Iran targeting Barron Trump, the 20-year-old son of Donald Trump, following Iranian state television claims of continuous monitoring and a $10 million assassination reward. Mohsen Rezaei, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, denied the plot, calling it a “conspiracy” to pressure the White House.
