Italian fishing and aquaculture sector aid
Overview
The Italian government and regional authorities have implemented financial aid measures to support the fishing and aquaculture sectors facing various economic pressures.
In early August 2026, the Italian Council of Ministers approved €3 million in refinancing for the National Solidarity Fund to assist companies suffering damage from extreme weather and marine events occurring between January 2024 and December 2026. Minister Francesco Lollobrigida stated the measure aims to restore damages and strengthen the sector’s response to climate-related risks.
Regional authorities have also launched specific initiatives to address rising costs linked to the crisis in the Middle East. In Tuscany, a FEAMPA call for tenders was launched to support businesses involved in the marketing, processing, outfitting, and operation of fishery and aquaculture products. While the initial allocation is €238,440, the total funding could increase to approximately €3.5 million following European Commission recognition of the situation as an exceptional event. Applications for this regional aid are open from August 17 until September 15, 2026.
Similarly, the Abruzzo Region has launched a FEAMPA 2021-2027 call to compensate micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises for increased production costs, such as fuel, energy, and feed. This initiative covers costs incurred between February 28 and December 31, 2026. Compensation is capped at a maximum of €80,000 per fishing vessel and €360,000 per aquaculture enterprise, with reimbursements subject to available resources.
