Johor Bahru-Singapore RTS Link development

Overview

The Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link is entering its final stages of integration testing, with operations scheduled to begin on January 1, 2027. The project, which has a total budget of S$3.24 billion, is funded with Singapore covering 61% of costs and Malaysia covering 39%. Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi noted the plan focuses on integrating public transport systems, supported by the federal government’s funding of the Elevated Autonomous Rapid Transit (E-ART) project. Additionally, Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook highlighted efforts to expand bus services, with 157 buses expected to serve routes around Johor Bahru Sentral and Bukit Chagar under the Stage Bus Transformation Programme 2.0 starting in early 2027.

Station facilities have been previewed, featuring luggage scanners, travelators, and spacious walkways. While progress on the Malaysian side has been highly visible, observers have noted differing communication styles between the two nations regarding project milestones. Public interest remains focused on the convenience of the service and potential ticket pricing for regular commuters.
