Journalism and literary initiatives in Chile and Dominican
Overview
In August 2026, several journalism and literary initiatives were announced in Chile and the Dominican Republic.
In Chile, the third edition of the ‘Nuevas Plumas Chile 2026’ award for unpublished Spanish-language chronicles is accepting entries. Organized by Universidad Portátil and the Universidad Andrés Bello, the competition is open to residents of Chile of any nationality and Chileans living abroad up to the age of 35. Submissions must be unpublished chronicles of any theme with a maximum length of 17,000 characters. The deadline is September 5, 2026. The winner will receive 1,000,000 Chilean pesos, publication of their work, and inclusion in a book featuring the 15 finalists. Finalists are expected to be announced in November, with the winner revealed during ‘La Furia del Libro’ in December 2026.
Additionally, the Dominican Republic is set to host the XXVI AMMPE World Congress of Women Journalists and Writers in Santo Domingo from November 25 to 29. The event will include the presentation of the ‘First Global Study of Women Journalists’, a project by AMMPE World and the Universidad de los Andes addressing gender equity, digital violence, and artificial intelligence in journalism.
