Juan Diego Flórez 2026 Spanish festivals and career jubilee

In late July 2026, Peruvian tenor Juan Diego Flórez opened the Festival Cap Rocat on the Balearic Islands. He performed a recital with pianist Vincenzo Scalera, presenting works by Bellini, Rossini, Donizetti and others. The festival program also featured soprano Lise Davidsen, baritones Freddie de Tommaso and Ludovic Tézier, and conductor Pablo Mielgo, with a concert version of Puccini’s Tosca scheduled for 2 August. A master-class day included a round-table discussion and training session led by baritone Ludovic Tézier to support emerging operatic talent.

A week later, on 2 August 2026, Flórez inaugurated San Sebastián’s Quincena Musical at the Kursaal Auditorium. He sang arias by Bellini, Donizetti, Rossini, Verdi and others, again accompanied by Scalera. Critics noted that he was battling a mild cold, which caused occasional breathlessness and reduced brilliance in the high register, though his technique remained solid. Reviewers described the performance as “notable but not outstanding,” noting that the illness affected his vocal clarity and power.

Following his appearances in Spain, Flórez is scheduled to celebrate the 30th anniversary of his professional debut at the Rossini Opera Festival (ROF) in Pesaro, Italy. On 18 August 2026, he will perform a special recital titled ‘Flórez 30’ at the Auditorium Scavolini. The event marks three decades since his 1996 debut in ‘Matilde di Shabran’ at the same festival. Flórez, who has been the artistic director of the ROF since 2022, will be accompanied by the Orchestra del Teatro Comunale di Bologna and the Coro del Teatro Ventidio Basso, conducted by Iván López-Reynoso.
