Kanagawa and Kanto high school baseball tournament updates

The autumn Kanagawa Prefecture high school baseball tournament progressed through the quarterfinals to the semifinals, with Yokohama High School and Busoh High School both advancing.

Busoh High School secured its first semifinal appearance in 15 years following a 7-0 victory over Hiratsuka Gakuen. Ace left-hander Shinsei Sakamoto held the opponent to two hits, while Coach Keishi Toyoda credited the win to data-driven tactics and video analysis used during a four-day preparation period.

Yokohama High School extended its dominance by defeating Toko Gakuen 8-0, reaching 42 consecutive victories. Despite challenges integrating players returning from the U-18 Asia Championship in Taiwan, sophomore pitcher Tetsusaburo Kobayashi recorded 13 strikeouts. Coach Hiroaki Murata noted the difficulty of managing the lineup on short notice.

Transitioning to the 79th Autumn Kanto High School Baseball Tournament, Yokohama High School advanced to the semifinals after a 9-2 mercy-rule victory over Jutoku High School on October 20. This win secured their fifth consecutive appearance in the Spring Koshien tournament. Tetsusaburo Kobayashi pitched a complete seven-inning game, reaching speeds of 148 km/h.

This Kanto tournament success followed a recent loss to Keio High School that ended Yokohama’s 43-game winning streak in Kanagawa Prefecture. In response, Manager Murata implemented a period of no practice to allow the team to reset mentally. Kobayashi, a U18 Asia Championship runner-up, indicated his intention to succeed Oda Shoki as the team’s ace.
