Karnataka political and administrative criticisms
Overview
Karnataka BJP Leader of the Opposition, R. Ashok, has leveled a series of allegations against the ruling Congress government concerning urban management, water resources, and political conduct.
Initially, Ashok criticized the administration’s handling of Bengaluru’s infrastructure, citing severe waterlogging, traffic congestion, and waste management failures following heavy monsoon rains. He argued that the government’s ‘Brand Bengaluru’ initiative has been reduced to mere advertisements while citizens face deteriorating living conditions. He further alleged that a sting operation targeting former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was funded with “black money,” totaling between 10 to 15 crore rupees, and called for an FIR to identify the financiers.
Subsequently, the focus of criticism expanded to include water resource management. Ashok accused the state government of betraying local interests by releasing 3,000 cusecs of Cauvery water daily to Tamil Nadu despite drought conditions and declining reservoir levels. He also addressed internal political controversies, alleging that the Congress party is plagued by “internal betrayal” and the use of covert recordings for political advantage.
Most recently, Ashok has accused the government of being anti-farmer, specifically citing a failure to distribute a promised Rs 2,500 one-time input subsidy for drought relief. He further alleged that the state has failed to pay its share of premiums under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), preventing farmers from receiving insurance compensation. He also noted reports of internal dissatisfaction, specifically citing concerns from Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara regarding the Finance Department’s handling of funds.
