Kevin Sinfield MND fundraising ultra-marathon challenge
Overview
Sir Kevin Sinfield has launched his ‘7-in-7: The Grand Finale’ ultra-marathon challenge to raise funds for Motor Neurone Disease (MND) research and support. The week-long event involves running seven ultra-marathons over seven days, covering more than 230 miles across Yorkshire and the North West to visit the home grounds of all 12 English Betfred Super League clubs.
Inspired by his former teammate Rob Burrow, Sinfield’s fundraising efforts have raised over £11 million for the MND community since 2020. The current initiative aims to benefit six charities, including the MND Association and the Leeds Hospitals Charity, with nearly £500,000 already pledged.
As the challenge commenced, Sinfield inaugurated new sports facilities at Ashton Sixth Form College, including a sports hall and a strength and conditioning gym. During the initial stages, he was joined by former England manager Sir Gareth Southgate.
By the fourth day of the challenge, Sinfield traveled from Wakefield through Leeds and Bradford, finishing the day in Huddersfield. During this stage, he made an emotional return to Headingley, the home of his former club, the Leeds Rhinos. He was joined by Micah Richards, who cycled alongside the group, and received a standing ovation at the Accu Stadium. The challenge is scheduled to conclude at Old Trafford ahead of the Super League Grand Final.
