Kristaps Porzingis health status with Golden State Warriors

Overview

Golden State Warriors center Kristaps Porzingis remains sidelined indefinitely due to an undisclosed health issue, causing him to miss the start of the team’s training camp and preseason games. General manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. previously described the situation as unexpected, noting that Porzingis had appeared to be in good shape shortly before the setback.

As the 2026–27 NBA regular season approaches, Porzingis is expected to be unavailable for the season opener on October 21 against the Los Angeles Lakers. Head coach Steve Kerr has described the ongoing situation as ‘definitely concerning,’ noting that he has only been able to communicate with the player via text message. While the organization has not released a specific diagnosis, Porzingis has a history of injuries, including postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS).

Recent developments indicate that the 31-year-old Latvian center has taken an indefinite leave of absence from the team. Despite ongoing speculation regarding his medical condition, Porzingis has reportedly been ‘less than forthcoming’ about his specific health status.

On October 11, it was reported that Porzingis is expected to return to the Warriors facility at Chase Center on Tuesday to meet with the team’s medical and performance staff. While his return to the building marks a step toward reintegration, Steve Kerr stated there is no clear timetable for his return to the court. Porzingis’ availability for the season opener against the Lakers remains uncertain and will be determined following discussions with performance staff, including Rick Celebrini. In the interim, Kerr has indicated a preference for a small-ball starting lineup for the season opener.
