The corruption trial of Kwabena Adu-Boahene, former Director-General of Ghana’s National Signals Bureau (NSB), has moved into a critical phase following the prosecution resting its case. Following the closure of the state's case, defense counsel Samuel Atta Akyea filed a ‘no-case’ submission in the Accra High Court, requesting the discharge of Adu-Boahene, his wife Angela Adjei-Boateng, and other defendants. The defense argues that the prosecution failed to provide sufficient evidence to require the accused to present a defense, citing significant evidential gaps and inconsistencies.

During the trial, the prosecution alleged the diverted funds were used to purchase luxury vehicles and real estate. However, during cross-examination, an investigator from the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) confirmed that the agency did not contact ISC or the National Security Council to verify whether the cybersecurity system had been purchased or delivered.

The defendants face 11 financial charges, including embezzlement, stealing, and money laundering. Following the filing of the ‘no-case’ submission, the Attorney-General has 14 days to respond.
