Lancia Gamma production and industrial strategy

Overview

Lancia has officially unveiled the Gamma, a flagship fastback crossover designed in Italy and slated for production at the Stellantis plant in Melfi. Presented at the Italian Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy, the model is intended to relaunch the brand within a strategic segment by combining Italian design with national industrial production.

Measuring 4.67 meters in length, the Gamma is positioned as a high-end model following the new Ypsilon. It utilizes the STLA Medium multi-energy platform, offering both hybrid and fully electric powertrain options. The hybrid version is expected to provide a total range exceeding 1,000 km, while the fully electric variants are projected to reach an autonomy of approximately 740 km.

The project involves approximately thirty Italian suppliers and is viewed as a strategic development to support employment stability at the Melfi site. As part of the FaSTLAne 2030 plan, Stellantis is integrating Lancia’s management more closely with Fiat to leverage synergies and efficiency under the leadership of CEO Arnaud Belloni. During the unveiling, Stellantis leadership and government officials emphasized the need for European Union regulatory frameworks that support ‘Made in Europe’ products and protect local manufacturing capacity during the environmental transition.
