Las Américas Airport weather flight disruptions

Entities: John F. Kennedy International Airport · Aeropuertos Dominicanos Siglo XXI (Aerodom) · JetBlue Airways · Las Américas International Airport · New York metropolitan area

Overview

Early July 2026 saw an adverse weather system over New York City force JetBlue to cancel and delay several flights at Santo Domingo’s Las Américas International Airport, stranding dozens of passengers. By mid‑July a more intense rain‑and‑flooding event across the northeastern United States broadened the impact, prompting cancellations for JetBlue, Delta, Arajet and other carriers on routes to New York, Newark, Boston, Orlando, Fort Lauderdale and San Juan. Airport operators repeatedly urged travelers to verify flight status as the system evolved.

On 20 July, the same storm system caused additional cancellations, with JetBlue, Delta and Arajet flights (including JetBlue B6‑609, B6‑210, Delta DL‑1908 and Arajet DM‑2315) to and from JFK, Newark and other destinations suspended, leaving passengers stranded both at Las Américas and U.S. airports.

A further New York metropolitan storm on 28 July led Aeropuertos Dominicanos Siglo XXI to cancel at least six round‑trip JetBlue flights between Santo Domingo and JFK, affecting outbound and inbound services and again prompting stranded travelers to check with their airlines. The recurring disruptions underscore the vulnerability of Dominican‑U.S. air links to severe weather events in the northeastern United States.
