Dominican Republic FDI and economic growth trends

Overview

The Dominican Republic’s economic growth continues to be driven by tourism, remittances, and robust fiscal performance. Through July 2026, tourism arrivals reached 7.7 million visitors, a 7% year-on-year increase, with authorities targeting 12 million by year-end. Remittances totaled US$7,316.4 million for the first seven months of 2026, with the United States providing 81.4% of formal inflows in July. These factors have contributed to an 8% appreciation of the peso against the US dollar since December 2025.

Fiscal indicators show strength, with the General Directorate of Internal Taxes (DGII) reporting a 6.5% year-on-year increase in tax collection for July 2026. In the financial sector, private sector credit grew 9.1% year-on-year by the end of June 2026.

Banreservas has significantly expanded its role in financing these growth sectors. The bank’s tourism credit portfolio has exceeded RD$60,000 million, with over 40 projects under evaluation involving investments exceeding US$6,161 million. To support broader economic activity, the bank has allocated RD$7,000 million to productive sectors, including construction, commerce, manufacturing, and agriculture. Executive President Leonardo Aguilera reported that the institution has disbursed more than RD$44,000 million to the business segment in 2026, maintaining a low delinquency rate of 0.18% as of August 19.

In September 2026, the bank reaffirmed its commitment to international expansion and local production. A delegation led by Ysidro García will represent the institution at the IFTM Top Resa tourism fair in Paris to promote Dominican investment opportunities and financing options to international developers. This follows the bank's ongoing efforts to use credit lines to stimulate national production and formal job creation.
