Latin American infrastructure development

Entities: Valparaíso regional government · municipal governments · Ernesto Cortissoz Airport · El Edén Airport · Limache

Overview

Governments across Latin America continue a broad wave of infrastructure upgrades. Airport modernization projects in Colombia, Mexico, Chile and Argentina involve terminal expansions, runway rehabilitations and new cargo facilities, backed by significant public investment and future concession plans. Municipal authorities are simultaneously launching dozens of local‑scale works. Earlier efforts included road paving, park renovations, health‑facility upgrades and new public‑space constructions, such as hospital expansions in Argentina, street improvements in Mexico and park developments in Peru. More recent initiatives extend this push to environmental clean‑up and community amenities. In Argentina, Monte Hermoso restored the 2,500 m² “Laberinto Vegetal” park, Paraná cleared urban streams, Berazategui completed a district‑wide street‑cleaning campaign, Rosario proposed pet‑bag dispensers for plazas, and Zárate began converting a health unit into a 12 000‑patient hospital funded by a nuclear plant. Chile saw new plazas and cultural spaces in Limache, a suspension of the Pampilla festival in Punitaqui to aid flood‑affected families, and cleaning machinery deployed in La Serena. In Mexico, cobblestone road work in Guadalupe Enríquez, a new bus shelter in Corregidora and rehabilitation of 13 Ecovía stations were undertaken. Colombia paved and upgraded five streets in Tulcán, while Bolivia’s Oruro campaign collected 225 tonnes of waste. In August 2026 municipal actions expanded further. Monte Hermoso repaired the drip‑irrigation system of the Laberinto Vegetal park; Cuautlancingo, Mexico, opened the first phase of a 7.6 million‑peso upgrade to the Unidad Deportiva Uranga, overseen by Mayor Omar Muñoz, adding two five‑a‑side football fields, a jogging track, renovated courts, new restrooms, a security booth, parking and solar lighting to serve more than 36 000 residents, with completion expected later in 2026. Volunteers in Río Lagartos reported motor‑oil residues contaminating the port, prompting calls for stricter waste‑disposal.
