Legal complaints filed by Wu Tzu-chia in Taiwan

Overview

Wu Tzu-chia, chairman of Formosa Electronic News, has initiated several legal actions in Taiwan involving high-profile political and business figures.

In early September 2026, Wu filed a criminal complaint at the Taipei District Prosecutors Office regarding a land development deal in Zhudong, Hsinchu County. The complaint names five individuals, including Yingde Group Chairman Yeh Li-cheng and former Hsinchu County Magistrate Cheng Yung-chin. Wu alleges that a NT$180 million payment may have been a disguised share of development profits intended to circumvent the Tax Collection Act, noting extreme discrepancies in land transaction prices in the area.

Shortly thereafter, Wu filed additional criminal complaints against nine individuals, including Taiwan People's Party (TPP) founders Ko Wen-je and Huang Kuo-chang. These complaints allege violations of the Public Officials Election and Recall Act, claiming TPP members engaged in “character assassination” against KMT candidate Hsu Hsin-ying to influence the Zhubei mayoral race.

In response, TPP Chairperson Huang Kuo-chang criticized the lawsuits, describing them as “political tricks and gimmicks” that are unlikely to succeed. Huang suggested the litigation is intended to damage Hsu Hsin-ying’s credibility. Additionally, political commentator Huang Shih-hsiu accused Hsu of allowing Wu to act as a close strategist, claiming their collaboration is undermining the alliance between the KMT and TPP.
