Wizards of the Coast announced that the new "The Hobbit" Magic: The Gathering set will launch on 14 August 2026, featuring iconic Tolkien characters and a re‑print of the Arkenstone. The announcement, made at MagicCon in Amsterdam, also introduced a limited "Secret Lair x Stardew Valley" series with three illustrated cards slated for sale on 27 July.

Later the same day, Wizards released spoilers for the upcoming Hobbit set, highlighting several powerful combo‑oriented cards such as "Master of Lake‑town," "Elrond, Moon‑Reader," and "Elven Raft Helmsman." These cards enable loops, card‑draw, and infinite landfall interactions, signalling that the set will be competitive across multiple formats, especially in decks focused on card advantage and token generation.

Further spoilers on 20 July reinforced the combo potential of those cards, noting mill‑triggered loops and blink effects that could support infinite draws or mana. An 27 July analysis added that the set reintroduces the Amass mechanic, now applied to Goblin armies, allowing players to create or grow Army tokens with +1/+1 counters. The same piece highlighted "Gleaming Splendor," a two‑mana enchantment that produces Treasure tokens, provides card draw and mana generation, and can contribute to infinite‑mana win conditions in Commander decks. Together, these design elements suggest the Hobbit set will impact both casual and competitive play across multiple formats.
