Malaysia National Month flag-raising campaigns

Malaysia has initiated various regional campaigns to celebrate National Month and promote the display of the national flag, the Jalur Gemilang.

In Penang, the campaign began with Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow overseeing the distribution of flags to 75 state, federal, and private agencies. The launch included an 18-vehicle convoy to the Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge, with officials emphasizing the flag as a symbol of unity and national independence.

Regional activities have expanded significantly. In Kelantan, the Malaysian Information Department (JAPEN) is intensifying its ‘One House, One Jalur Gemilang’ (1R1JG) initiative, encouraging citizens to fly the flag at homes, businesses, and vehicles. Through the ‘Ekspresi Jalur Gemilang JAPEN@PETRONAS 2026’ program, the first 200 vehicles at 15 selected PETRONAS stations nationwide receive free flag magnets.

In Pahang, a state-level launch in Raub, officiated by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, drew over 10,000 participants for a 2.7-kilometer brisk walk and musical performances. Similarly, in Kota Tinggi, Johor, State Assemblyman Norlizah Noh emphasized that the flag serves as a “symbol of the beloved homeland and a symbol of struggle” that citizens should display to show national pride.

In Kuala Lumpur, the PENTARAMA Merdeka@HOHO 2026 program distributed thousands of flags via a KL Hop-On Hop-Off bus tour to iconic locations. JAPEN Director-General Erwin Khairul Ahmad noted that the enthusiastic response demonstrates the “enduring patriotic spirit of the Malaysian people.”
