MasterChef Junior transition to Disney+
Overview
The culinary talent show ‘MasterChef Junior’ is transitioning from the Spanish public broadcaster TVE to the streaming platform Disney+ starting with its twelfth season. This move follows a decline in viewership on traditional television, with the eleventh season averaging approximately 708,000 viewers.
Produced by Shine Iberia, the new season is being adapted for digital consumption with a “renewed structure and faster narrative rhythm.” The upcoming edition will consist of five episodes scheduled to release between December 18 and January 6. To suit the streaming format, the number of challenges per episode will be reduced to two major tests, and the series will incorporate themed episodes inspired by the Disney universe.
Sixteen contestants aged eight to twelve will compete for a prize including 12,000 euros, a trophy, and a course at the Basque Culinary Center. While the junior version moves to streaming, the adult and Celebrity editions of the franchise are expected to remain on La 1.
