Matamoros military exhibition concludes

On 20 July 2026, Governor Américo Villarreal Anaya opened the interactive exhibition ‘La Gran Fuerza de México’ at the Parque Olímpico in Matamoros, Tamaulipas. The ceremony was attended by municipal, state, and military officials, including Mayor Alberto ‘Beto’ Granados Fávila, Senator Olga Sosa Ruiz, Magistrate Tania Contreras López, and General Rubén Darío Díaz Esparza. The governor emphasized the exhibition’s role in strengthening ties between the armed forces and the community, linking it to the city’s bicentennial celebrations and strategic border projects.

Within its first week, the free-entry event had drawn more than 16,000 visitors. The display showcased the Army, Air Force, and National Guard through interactive modules, including the DN-III-E disaster-relief plan, cavalry, paratroopers, special forces, canine units, and historical exhibits, alongside cultural performances.

By its conclusion on 17 August 2026, the exhibition had attracted more than 200,000 visitors. The event provided families with direct access to military equipment, tactical gear, and capabilities, complemented by canine and equine demonstrations and musical performances by military bands and mariachis. During the closing ceremony, Mayor Granados and military officials, including Brigadier General Juan Carlos Hernández García, reiterated that the initiative aimed to strengthen the bond between the Armed Forces and the civilian population. To commemorate the event and the city's bicentennial, Mayor Granados received a commemorative bench created by local muralist Marco Antonio Martínez Sarabia, which will remain installed at the Olympic Park as a permanent cultural reminder. The exhibition is expected to continue its tour through Tamaulipas, with Tampico designated as its next destination.
