Mato Grosso 2026 electoral processes
Overview
The Regional Electoral Court of Mato Grosso (TRE-MT) is managing several administrative and legislative processes ahead of the 2026 General Elections.
The court has approved two plebiscites scheduled for October 25, 2026, to address municipal boundary changes. These votes will determine if the Nova Poxoréu District will move from Poxoréu to Primavera do Leste, and if certain occupation islands from the Nova Cotriguaçu Settlement Project will move from Colniza to Cotriguaçu.
Regarding candidate registrations, the TRE-MT has concluded the period with 479 requests, marking a 16.55% decrease from the 2022 cycle. Court President Serly Marcondes Alves attributed this decline to party mergers, incorporations, and the formation of political federations. In local developments, Max Russi, state president of the Podemos party, announced a list of 25 candidates for state deputy, aiming to secure six to seven seats in the Legislative Assembly of Mato Grosso.
To handle the upcoming workload, the court has implemented Ordinance No. 358/2026. From August 15 to December 18, the court has expanded service hours, including weekend and holiday shifts. Physical and digital services will operate from 7:30 to 14:30 on weekdays, while weekend and holiday shifts will run from 14:00 to 18:00. Additionally, hybrid work models have been suspended for certain staff during this period.
