MetaMask AI Agent Wallet launch and US crypto regulation
Overview
MetaMask has launched its Agent Wallet, a self-custodial tool designed to allow artificial intelligence agents to execute autonomous on-chain trades. The wallet enables users to maintain control via pre-configured limits, such as daily spending caps and allow-listed protocols. Security features include transaction simulation, threat scanning via Blockaid, and MEV protection. Users can select between a safety-focused ‘Guard Mode’, which requires two-factor approval for out-of-policy actions, and a more permissive ‘Beast Mode’ for streamlined automation.
To facilitate seamless operation, the wallet utilizes gas abstraction, allowing agents to pay transaction fees using the transferred tokens. Eligible transactions are eligible for up to $10,000 of monthly loss-protection coverage against network fraud. The product supports EVM-compatible networks and the Hyperliquid exchange, integrating with AI development tools like Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, and OpenClaw.
Following an early-access period with approximately 200 users, the product has moved into a closed testing phase for registered developers to gather practical data. A general release is expected during the Northern Hemisphere summer with no subscription fees. ConsenSys founder Joe Lubin noted that ‘the next big expansion of the on-chain economy will not be driven solely by humans.’
Separately, the U.S. Senate has postponed a vote on the CLARITY Act until September. The delay follows a failure to reach a bipartisan agreement regarding ethics provisions and banking-sector language. Senate Majority Leader John Thune indicated the bill will return to the agenda after the summer recess, noting that Democrats are requesting further revisions.
