In mid‑July 2026 Mexico’s federal epidemiology agency recorded a modest 12 PCR‑confirmed COVID‑19 cases in Morelos and no deaths, while the national tally stood at 855 cases and 21 fatalities. A sentinel‑based influenza‑like‑illness surveillance system reported a 1.4 % positivity rate in Morelos.

A week later, nationwide figures rose sharply to 709 confirmed cases and the same 21 deaths. The Mexico City metropolitan area accounted for roughly 37 % of infections (about 420 cases), and the state of Hidalgo reported the highest death count (six). Test positivity jumped to 17.8 % in epidemiological week 26, and officials warned that the virus continued to circulate, especially among people with chronic conditions.

Subsequent data on 25 July reaffirmed the 709‑case total and highlighted demographic details: the most affected age groups were 25‑29, 30‑34 and 40‑44, and women represented 58.5 % of cases. Health authorities reiterated the risk for older adults and those with diabetes, hypertension, obesity or cardiovascular disease, and noted that an updated vaccine could be authorised for the winter 2026‑27 season.

By 28 July, the state of Hidalgo had accumulated 99 confirmed cases and six deaths, giving it the country’s highest case‑fatality rate (over 28 %). With 16 new infections reported in the week of 13‑20 July, Hidalgo ranked third in case count behind Mexico City and the State of Mexico. Officials urged continued preventive measures and prompt medical attention for respiratory symptoms, particularly for seniors and other vulnerable groups.
