71st Montilla-Moriles Grape Harvest Festival underway

The 71st Montilla-Moriles Grape Harvest Festival (Fiesta de la Vendimia) has officially commenced, marked by several high-profile cultural honors. Following the initial selection process, Natalia Marín Cabanillas and José Antonio Marín García have been formally designated as the ‘Vendimiadores Mayores’, accompanied by a traditional court of ladies.

During ceremonies held at the Bodegas Pérez Barquero courtyard, Manuel Torralbo Rodríguez, Rector of the University of Córdoba, was invested as the ‘Capataz de Honor’. In his address, Torralbo voiced support for Montilla’s bid to be named the ‘Spanish City of Wine’ in 2027. Additionally, industrialist and enologist Miguel Herrador Repiso received recognition as ‘Capataz de Bodega’.

The festival, which holds the status of National Tourist Interest, continues to uphold historical traditions, such as the use of ceremonial attire for the Vendimiadora Mayor inspired by 19th-century art.
