Municipal infrastructure and social funding in the Balkans

Overview

Municipalities and regional governments in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia continue to secure funding for infrastructure, public safety, and emergency services.

In Croatia, the municipalities of Blato and Smokvica are utilizing the Integrated Territorial Program for Islands to build new fire stations. These facilities will include garages for fire vehicles, office spaces, and training areas, with the Blato project also providing new space for the Vincenza Association.

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Municipality of Velika Kladuša has signed an agreement with the Una-Sana Canton for 450,000 KM in capital grants. These funds are designated for road modernization, public lighting, the first phase of a new fire station, and technical documentation for urban parks. The municipality also received 89,040 KM for ecological water disinfection equipment.

Additionally, the Government of Hercegbosanska županija has approved significant investments for security and civil protection. For the police sector, 270,000 KM has been allocated for the second phase of the Glamoč Police Station construction, alongside funds for weaponry, uniforms, and video surveillance. Emergency services will receive 190,000 KM for new fire vehicles and 34,980 KM for the operation and training of rescue services, including the Mountain Rescue Service. The government also approved a new protection and rescue plan to coordinate responses to natural and other disasters.
