Murder of Pakistani TikToker Ayesha Gilamana

Overview

On August 14, 2026, Pakistani TikTok creator Ayesha Gilamana, also known as Shamso Bibi, was killed in a shooting near Taxila. According to a police complaint filed by her father, Gilamana was traveling in a car with her siblings when two unidentified men on a motorcycle opened fire. A bullet struck Gilamana in the neck, killing her at the scene and causing the vehicle to crash into another car, which left her 15-year-old sister seriously injured.

Gilamana had amassed approximately 1.3 million followers and over 35 million likes on TikTok. Her father, Fazal Sahibzada, initially alleged that the attack was motivated by financial disputes, naming individuals Kausar and Javed (alias Shaheen) in a complaint regarding previous death threats and money repayments. The family also noted that Gilamana had been lured out of her home following a phone call from an individual named Kashif shortly before the attack.

However, subsequent police investigations have shifted the motive. Authorities now believe the killing was an ‘honour killing’ that was allegedly planned during a jirga in Lower Dir attended by more than 100 people. Rawalpindi police have since arrested five suspects, including the victim’s father Fazal, her brother Bashir, and several cousins. Senior Superintendent of Police Malik Tariq Mehboob stated that technical evidence and CCTV footage from over 100 cameras exposed a conspiracy, contradicting the father’s initial claim that the incident was a ‘blind murder’ resulting from a financial dispute. The incident has renewed domestic concerns regarding the safety of women and social media influencers in Pakistan.
