My Vintage Dress fraud probe and embezzlement claims
Overview
The luxury bridal boutique My Vintage Dress in São Paulo is facing significant legal and operational crises following widespread consumer complaints. Initially, reports emerged that numerous brides were left without wedding dresses shortly before their ceremonies, leading to confrontations at the establishment. The boutique’s owner, Camila Rossi, denied fraud allegations, attributing the issues to production challenges and an exceptional volume of orders.
As the situation progressed, the Civil Police of São Paulo opened a formal investigation into potential fraud, known as ‘estelionato’. The business has since accumulated 12 lawsuits and 56 complaints on the consumer platform Reclame Aqui. Beyond the fraud probe, the boutique is also facing an eviction lawsuit filed by its property owner due to unpaid property taxes exceeding R$ 41,000.
In recent developments, Camila Rossi has claimed the business disruption was caused by an employee embezzling approximately R$ 1 million. Her lawyer, Luiz Augusto Filizzola D'Urso, stated that Rossi has personally invested approximately R$ 600,000 to maintain operations. To prioritize existing commitments, the store has suspended new sales to focus on fulfilling more than 300 pending orders scheduled through the end of the year.
While Rossi maintains the shop is attempting to fulfill contracts despite this financial setback, the establishment has reportedly failed to attend meetings summoned by Procon-SP. Furthermore, the 14th Police District in Pinheiros has opened an inquiry into the potential fraud, amid reports of staff dismissals and an incident where unauthorized individuals reportedly entered the premises to remove dresses.
