NANS infrastructure inspections and industry engagement
Overview
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has conducted a series of inspections and industry visits focused on infrastructure and student welfare. The association toured several federal road projects in North-West Nigeria, including the Kaduna-Abuja and Kaduna-Kano roads, as well as the Kano Northern Bypass. NANS leadership commended the Ministry of Works for these developments, noting that improved road quality is essential for the mobility and safety of students.
During a tour of North-West projects, NANS President Afeez Akinteye highlighted the 69.4-kilometre Kano Northern Bypass as a landmark project. Featuring three flyovers and seven bridges, the dual carriageway is expected to ease transportation for 10 tertiary institutions across the region, including routes through Katsina and Zamfara states. The association also inspected the Kano-Kwanar Danja-Hadejia, Kano-Maiduguri, and Kano-Katsina roads.
Expanding its Nationwide Federal Roads Project Tour to the North-East, NANS President Akinteye Babatunde Afeez led a delegation to inspect the Jama’are-Azare and Potiskum-Maiduguri roads in Bauchi State. These routes were prioritized due to their service to the Federal University of Health Sciences, Azare, Bauchi State University, and Aminu Saleh College of Education, Azare. The inspection indicated that completed roadwork has improved daily commuting for students in the region.
In addition to infrastructure tours, NANS executives visited the Sewia Mining & Refinery in Accra, Ghana. During this visit, the refinery’s CEO committed ₦15 million toward student development and welfare initiatives for both NANS Nigeria and NANS Ghana, while encouraging youth to engage in the mineral resource sector.
