Narcotics seizures and enforcement in India

Law enforcement agencies in India have conducted several operations resulting in significant narcotics seizures across different states.

In Neemuch, Madhya Pradesh, police arrested Sumer Ram, a suspect from Jodhpur, Rajasthan, after recovering 10.15 kilograms of opium concealed in bags. The narcotics are valued at approximately 51 lakh rupees. This operation, part of the ‘Operation Nasha Mukt Nagaur’ campaign, also involved the interception of 2.4 kilograms of opium worth roughly 12 lakh rupees, aimed at dismantling supply chains between Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.

At Pune Railway Junction, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized suspected amphetamine and MDMA valued at approximately Rs 3.41 crore. During an intelligence-led operation, officers intercepted a female passenger traveling from Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station in Delhi. The seizure included 2,532 grams of a crystalline substance suspected to be amphetamine and 878 grams of tablets suspected to contain MDMA. The passenger was arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.

In Indore, police arrested a Nigerian national, Imunel Joy, for possession of 57.18 grams of cocaine valued at approximately 29 lakh rupees. The suspect, a resident of Lagos, Nigeria, was intercepted during a patrol near IT Park Sinhasa. Authorities are investigating potential links to an international drug trafficking network connecting Mumbai and Indore.

Further details regarding the Indore arrest indicate that Joy arrived in India from Nigeria on August 14 on a business visa and had been residing in Bandra East, Mumbai. Following her arrest, a court placed her on a five-day police remand. Investigators are currently analyzing her mobile phone, including deleted WhatsApp chats, to identify local suppliers and other members of the international network.
