Nature and scientific events in Italy

Overview

Italy is hosting a series of regional events focused on nature, biodiversity, and scientific education. Initial activities include the WWF ‘Urban Nature 2026’ in Chieti, birdwatching in Beigua Park, and botanical trekking in Solaro.

Subsequent programming shifts toward scientific and biotechnological themes. In Naples, events coinciding with European Biotech Week and the tenth edition of the WWF Urban Nature festival include DNA extraction experiments led by University of Naples Federico II researchers and ethnobotanical tours guided by WWF biologists. In Trento, MUSE is participating in the Autumnus festival with the theme ‘La città che respira’ (The breathing city). From October 8 to 11, the museum will host a program in Piazza Duomo featuring a black-and-white photography exhibition by Rocco Casaluci titled ‘Il giardino delle erbacce’ to demonstrate how spontaneous flora impacts urban ecosystems.

Additional nature observation activities are scheduled for early October. In Brinzio, the TAM Group of the CAI Varese section, with experts from the OIKOS Institute, is organizing a training day on bat monitoring and species recognition. Meanwhile, in Nonantola, the Modena section of LIPU is hosting an Eurobirdwatch Day at the ‘Il Torrazzuolo’ Ecological Rebalancing Area to observe autumn migratory patterns in wetland habitats.
