Netflix subscription price increases in Brazil

Overview

Netflix has implemented price increases across all three of its subscription tiers in Brazil. The adjustments include the ad-supported plan, which rose from R$ 20.90 to R$ 25.90 (a 23.9% increase), the standard plan, which increased from R$ 44.90 to R$ 51.90 (approximately 15.6%), and the premium plan, which rose from R$ 59.90 to R$ 71.90.

The company stated these updates are intended to allow for continued investment in high-quality entertainment, improve the subscriber experience, and expand its catalog of films and series. This follows a previous price adjustment in the country in May 2024. Existing subscribers are notified via email approximately one month before new rates apply to their billing cycles.

These price hikes coincide with a period of corporate restructuring, including a global workforce reduction of approximately 6%, affecting about 1,000 employees. Amidst intense competition from YouTube and traditional rivals, Netflix has entered a major licensing agreement with Globo to bring 18 Brazilian productions to its platform between late 2026 and mid-2027.

This content deal, beginning in December 2026, includes 14 films, three telenovelas, and one comedy series. Key titles include the Oscar-winning film ‘Ainda Estou Aqui’, which will be available exclusively in Brazil, and ‘Vitória’, starring Fernanda Montenegro, which will receive global distribution. Additionally, the telenovela ‘Caminho das Índias’ will be available in the United States and Latin America (excluding Brazil), while the comedy series ‘Vai Que Cola’ will be available for seven seasons exclusively in Brazil. Both companies stated the partnership aims to expand the international reach of Brazilian culture and audiovisual creativity.
