New Jersey fugitive apprehension efforts

Overview

Law enforcement agencies in New Jersey have been conducting operations to apprehend fugitives listed on most wanted rosters.

In late August 2026, the New Jersey State Police released a list of 14 fugitives, including individuals from the South Jersey region. Notable names included Kurt Young, a former corrections officer wanted for charges involving a trafficked minor, and John Schlump, who remains on the list despite a court declaration that he is deceased.

Following the release of such lists, the Atlantic County Sheriff’s Department successfully captured three individuals from its Top 10 Most Wanted Fugitives list within two weeks. Quincy Knight was arrested on August 18, while Brian Nixon and Oratile Moeng were apprehended on August 28 through coordinated efforts involving the Atlantic County Sheriff’s Office and the USMS Regional Fugitive Task Force.

By late September 2026, authorities had captured six of the ten fugitives on the Atlantic County Sheriff's Office list. The sixth arrest involved 58-year-old Adrian Abney, who was apprehended by the U.S. Marshals Service on Germantown Avenue in Philadelphia. Abney was wanted on an Atlantic County Superior Court warrant for aggravated assault. These arrests resulted from coordinated efforts between the Atlantic County Sheriff's Office, local law enforcement, the U.S. Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force, and various state and federal agencies. Four fugitives from the Atlantic County list currently remain at large.
