Both events illustrate Nigeria’s shift from a regional call for African-led mineral development to concrete engagement with the United States to attract financing and technical support for its critical-minerals sector.

Building on this momentum, the Africa Minerals Strategy Group (AMSG) announced it will host its Third High-Level Roundtable on Critical Minerals Development in Africa on September 21, 2026, in New York. Held on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly, the summit will be chaired by President Tinubu. The roundtable, themed ‘From Resources to Wealth: Continental Cooperation for Mineral Value Addition’, aims to promote local processing and integrated value chains for strategic resources like lithium, copper, and cobalt. The summit intends to unveil the Continental Integration and Economic Assurance Declaration (CIEAD) and introduce the CIEAD Finance Window to mobilize funding for mineral processing infrastructure and technology.
