Alidu Seidu joins OGC Nice on loan from Stade Rennais

OGC Nice has completed the signing of Ghanaian international defender Alidu Seidu on loan from Stade Rennais. The transfer was processed as an emergency “joker” move, a French regulation allowing clubs to sign replacements outside the standard window due to serious injuries to Antoine Mendy and Moïse Bombito.

While initial reports regarding a purchase option were clarified to be a “dry loan,” the deal is confirmed to run until the end of the 2026/27 season. The 26-year-old Seidu, who has over 100 Ligue 1 appearances and 25 international caps for Ghana, offers versatility as a centre-back, right-back, or right wing-back.

The move, which received financial approval from ownership group INEOS, provides Seidu with increased playing time after he had fallen out of the primary rotation at Rennes, where he remains under contract until 2029. Nice sporting director Roger Ricourt praised Seidu’s temperament and experience, specifically noting his participation in the 2022 and 2026 World Cups. Ricourt also highlighted Seidu’s ability to integrate quickly due to his proficiency in French.
