Okoye family feud over P-Square escalates into legal battles

Overview

The Okoye family feud, involving members of the defunct music duo P-Square, has escalated from public allegations into formal legal proceedings. Peter Okoye has claimed that the group’s 2021 reunion was a “façade” intended only to mend personal relationships rather than revive the duo. He further alleged that following the reunion, Paul and Jude Okoye attempted to have him sign documents to re-establish P-Square under a new bank account, which he refused.

In a significant legal development, Peter testified in Lagos Federal High Court regarding a fraud case prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). He alleged that his elder brother, Jude Okoye, and Jude’s company, Northside Music Limited, diverted approximately ₦1.38 billion in royalties from the duo. Peter claimed payments from digital streaming platforms were routed to accounts controlled by Jude’s wife and that he was removed as a signatory on the group’s accounts. Jude Okoye has maintained that all disputed payments and backend data were handled correctly and that the matters are currently before the courts.

While the rift between the twins remains unresolved, Peter has seen commercial success through his clothing brand, Zipp Republic. Following his video series, the brand reported selling nearly 3,000 red caps in seven days, generating over N60 million in sales. Amidst the ongoing dispute over royalties and brand control, music executive Soso Soberekon has proposed a celebrity boxing match, offering Peter N500 million to face Paul in the ring.
